Frustration

Mon Aug 30, 2004, 8:16 AM
Ok, so the job search isn't going very well. The whole experience thing is a real bitch. Everybody wants a designer with years experience... Well, how can I get experience when nobody will hire me?! Even though, I can walk all over these employed designers/artists I don't get hired because I'm right out of college with a BFA in Graphic Design.

What ever happened to employing the new creative wave of the future? Instead people just want boring designers with the same damn look on everything.

Excuse my belligerence... I'm just very bothered by the hell of starting out. Why can't people look PAST the experience, and see true talent? Got me.

So this is what I ask... If anybody has ANY freelance projects that need to be done, please contact me. I can do anything design oriented, websites, along with commissioned paintings, illustrations, etc. Please look through my gallery here and my graphic design work can be viewed on my website: [link]

I look forward to anything any of you might have to offer. Thanks to all!

That's a tough one, but your pitch is real. Use it in the interview as an honest "match this to your newest edge" attitude. You are talent who has just become available and a whole host of fresh ideas. Ask the interviewer how experienced talent that has slim to no open time slots and even fewer fresh ideas could even match what they are looking for? I tell you, what we really need out there are men who can design men's & teen boys clothing that is not so clique - ish! There's either the "home boy", the "hip hop", the "xgames/skateboarder", the "jock", the "preppie" or the "couch potato". I am so tired of trying to find stuff for my husband and son that don't make them look like they've had a label slapped on their foreheads! You know?

Go at it differently..... think the highest of self and dristribute a card with these images. Go to the paint stores and the fabric stores and get to know the people there,as well as the hairdressers...have them get to know you and collaborate your way into being.....just thoughts....from another artist....... :rose:
